A new study appearing in the October issue of the journal Pediatrics says that the cavity forming potential of breast milk is more than that of Cow's milk.

A new study appearing in the October issue of the journal Pediatrics says that the cavity forming potential of breast milk is more than that of Cow's milk.

Dr. Ruth A. Lawrence of the University of Rochester in New York and her colleague Dr. William H. Bowen used rats to demonstrate that breast milk had a potential to cause tooth decay faster than cow's milk. Baby mice did develop cavities and dental erosion when they were fed sweet liquids like soda and honey-sweetened water. Human milk did slow down the process of cavity formation, but this effect was substantially less as compared to cow's milk.
