A report in The New York Times says that breastfeeding in the US depends on what class mothers belong to. Apparently mothers from professional backgrounds are allowed to breastfeed their babies, while poor mothers are frowned upon.
"I feel like I had to choose between feeding my baby the best food and earning a living," said Jennifer Munoz, a former cashier at Resorts Atlantic City Casino. She said she had to take irregular breaks behind a fridge or the toilet in order to dump her milk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that seventy-three percent of mothers now breast-feed their newborns. Doctors believe breast milk offers babies protection and reduces the rate of infection, the risk of allergies, obesity, and chronic disease later in life.
