William McBride has become the youngest person in the world to have stomach-shrinking surgery after he went through the procedure at the tender age of 10.

McBride, now 12-year-old, was so overweight that he could barely walk and was told he'd end up in an early grave.

However, two years ago, he had weight-loss surgery to tackle his 14-stone bulk and within a year he was five stone lighter.

The young American was refused surgery by US doctors because of his age and he ended up travelling more than 3,000 miles from his home in Portland, Oregon to Spain for the life-saving op.

McBride, who is now just over eight stone, says the operation has transformed his life.

"I just feel so good and I don't have to spend my days in a wheelchair. I can still eat what I want, but I'm no longer hungry all the time," the Mirror quoted McBride as saying.

"My life has changed so much. I can walk wherever I want to go and just feel so much better," he added.
