A 35-year old British woman who participated in the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK succumbed to the disease two weeks after completing the race without knowing that she had cancer. Emma Horton had earlier suffered from skin cancer but was told that that she had recovered from the cancer. Mrs Horton took part in the London Marathon, crossing the finish line on April 17 and breathed her last exactly two weeks later on May 1.
Her husband, Dave Horton said that she suffered from flu-like symptoms even before the marathon but the couple put it down to the stress of training. However when her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to the hospital in Birmingham where she succumbed to the disease five days later.
David said that even though his wife did not like running, she wanted to participate in the marathon to raise money. “Running was really not in Emma’s remit but she was determined to do the marathon to raise money. I want people to remember how thoughtful, loving, caring and sharing she was”, he said.
