A young British mother who thought she had stomach cancer committed suicide by drowning herself in a local river. Seemberjeet Kaur, 35, reportedly was obsessed with her health condition and that of her 4-year-old daughter, who had severe eczema and pneumonia.
Because her daughter was ill and she herself was beginning to lose weight quickly, Kaur gave up her job at a nursery months before committing suicide. According to the sources, the mother from West Yorkshire consulted a doctor in 2013 as she was worried about her health. She was prescribed a muscle relaxant.

The mother, who was unsatisfied with the expert diagnosis, went online to research her sickness and came to her own conclusion that she had stomach cancer. Balijeet Sing Kang, husband of Kaur, told media that his wife was profoundly affected by her daughter’s illness and she “did not leave her side.”

“She became a bit protective. It snowed one day and she did not want me to take her outside. She was consumed with her health. She talked to everyone about it all the time,” Kang said.

Kang also said that his wife was affected negatively when she stopped working and that she didn’t leave the house as much as she should’ve.

“She seemed happy but disappointed not to work. She liked the house to be clean and tidy and she was a bit OCD about this. She didn’t have any hobbies or go out much,” he said.

On October 2013, Kaur made several calls to her husband about feeling sick, and then went down to a river. Her body was found six weeks later drowned.

According to the Coroner, Kaur was under the impression that her organs were failing. “I record a verdict that she took her own life whilst the balance of her mind was disturbed,” the Coroner’s report said.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder of the brain and behavior. OCD causes severe anxiety in those affected.
