A survey carried out for the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has found that a majority of Britons are being put off exercise by the high prices being charged by gyms.
The survey of more than 2,000 people found that 42% of 18-24 year olds blamed the high cost of gym memberships for their lack of physical activity, while 19% of 55-year-olds did the same.

Around 36% cited pressures caused by work and family commitments as a reason for not exercising. Over 30% of 18 to 24-year-olds said they were not even bothered to exercise.

“It is a concern that so many people feel that financial cost is stopping them being more physically active,” said Rachel Thompson, deputy head of science at WCRF. "People can take up brisk walking or running, or start playing a sport that they enjoy. Even hobbies such as dancing or gardening can count."
