Busy lifestyles of Britons are taking away their desert time with eight out of ten people saying they are too tired to eat puddings after a meal, according to a new survey. While half of all people would like to eat a hearty crumble or roulade every night, they said that they are too tired or busy to prepare one when they get home in the evening.
Long days at work, stressful commutes followed by domestic duties such as overseeing children's homework were given as the reasons behind the decline.
The survey of 3,000 people's attitudes towards puddings was carried out by pub group Fayre and Square to coincide with National Pudding Week.
Lynda Bellingham, the actress, broadcaster and 'mum' in the famous Oxo TV ads, said it is a shame that people consider themselves so short of time that they have to sacrifice puddings.
However she said that the long hours culture in the UK makes the survey's findings unsurprising.
"Britons work the longest hours in Europe and by the time we finish a stressful day at work, battle through traffic, deal with children and homework and domestic duties it's hardly surprising that desserts fall by the wayside," the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

Many people feel that they would be unable to recreate the magic tastes of their childhoods.

However, four in ten felt that they would be unable to replicate the puddings that their mothers used to make.
In the survey, three-quarters of all people said that they view pudding as a treat when they dine out, rather than an essential part of a meal at home.
