Burn Units to be Set Up in Medical Colleges and District Hospitals Across India

Under the 12th Five Year Plan, 67 burn units in the State Government Medical Colleges and 19 burn units in the District Hospitals are to be established.

Burn Units to be Set Up in Medical Colleges and District Hospitals Across India
Ministry of Health & Family Welfare initiated a "Pilot Programme for Prevention of Burn Injuries" (PPPBI) during the year 2010 with a total budget of Rs. 29 crore.
The program was initiated in the following three Medical Colleges and six Districts Hospitals of three States:

Haryana:
  • Post Graduate Institute of Medicals Sciences Rohtak
  • General Hospital, Gurgaon
  • Civil Hospital, Panipat
Himachal Pradesh: 
  • Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda at Kangra
  • District Hospital, Hamirpur
  • Zonal Hospital, Mandi
Assam
  • Guwahati Medical College
  • District Hospital, Nagaon
  • District Hospital, Dhubri
The continuation of the pilot programme under the 12th Plan has been approved as a Scheme of "National Programme for Prevention and Management on Burn Injuries (NPPMBI)". The Scheme has two components namely (i) Medical Colleges and (ii) District Hospital. Under the 12th Five Year Plan, it has been decided to establish 67 burn units in the State Government Medical Colleges and 19 burn units in the District Hospitals.

During the 12th Five Year Plan, 21 Medical Colleges and 8 District Hospitals have been approved for establishing burn units.
