A research conducted by Fay Guarraci, an assistance professor of psychology at south-western university and a graduate student revealed that moderate doses of caffeine has a greater effect on the sexual behaviour of female rats.
This study is one of the kinds and is among the first to determine the effects of caffeine on the sexual stimulation of the female rats. It also probes into the relationship between caffeine and sex.The researchers conducted the study on 108 female rats. They injected moderate doses of caffeine before the matting test. They wanted to study the effects of caffeine on the matting of the female rats.
The results showed that the female rats took less time to return to their male partners after receiving an ejaculation. This showed that the female rats were increasingly motivated by the caffeine and wanted to be with their male partners.
Similarly they wanted to show the effects of caffeine on the mammals (humans) especially the sexual motivation in the females. But in case of humans most of them drink coffee which contributes to a moderate amount in their body and hence the effects of caffeine cannot be well analyzed. Whereas in case of rats they are not exposed to caffeine and when exposed show a significant increase in the sexual behaviour.
The researcher also said that this study will help us to understand the rapport that exists between the brain and behaviour. This will help us to identify which area of the brain is stimulated during sexual behaviour.
