Can Certain Common Foods Trigger Cancer?

A new study has thrown light that some common food stuffs like wine, cheese, yogurt and bread contain certain elements

A new study has thrown light that some common food stuffs like wine, cheese, yogurt and bread contain certain elements that may trigger DNA modification and mutation , causing cells to grow abnormally, which may eventually lead to lung cancer.

This finding by the team from Queen's University has emphasized the importance of eating a balanced diet including garlic which can go a long way in stifling the development of carcinogens. The researchers are now studying the outcome of treatment using vinyl carbamate on mice. Vinyl carbamate, which is present in fermented foods like bread, yogurt, cheese and alcohol, is derived from ethyl carbamate or urethane, a naturally-occuring compound in tobacco. Urethane has been recognized as a potential human carcinogen by the WHO and the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

As a last word, researchers said it would be wise to include garlic in one's diet and keep the consumption of alcohol to the barest minimum.
