Canadian Couple Contest Son's Removal from Life Support

A couple from Alberta is contesting the decision of an Edmonton hospital to remove life support for their infant son, who was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.

Rebecka and Isaac May say that Edmonton's Stollery Children's Hospital must not remove the ventilator on which their infant son has been kept alive at the neo-natal intensive care unit.

Dr. Ernest Phillipos, the clinical director for the unit, said that the boy called Isaiah had suffered from irreversible brain damage. Isaiah's parents say that their son has survived beyond the first few days and that his growth parameters are also solid and hence they do not want him taken off the ventilator.
