According to a Canadian survey it was found that Canadians who are at a risk or those suffering from high Blood pressure are at an increased risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Statistics shows that about 9 out of 10 Canadians suffer from hypertension. Hence to educate the Canadians the Hypertension Prevention and Control program is set out to illustrate various ways to reduce their blood pressure. Dr. Norm Campbell, the new chair of the program said that hypertension is asymptomatic and therefore a person has to measure his blood pressure to be aware of it.
More than a quarter of Canadian adults and half of all Canadians aged 55 and older suffer from high blood pressure. To keep one’s blood pressure under control it is necessary to have a healthy diet and regular exercise. Diet should be rich in fresh food and vegetables. Those that are to be kept at bay are high fat dairy products, food rich in saturated fat and high in salt content. Regular physical exercise for 30 to 60 minutes is essential to maintain the blood pressure. Dr. Peter Liu of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research said the expanded program will focus on improving treatment and primary prevention.
