Vaccines to treat cancers including prostate cancer could become a reality in the near future
Vaccines to treat cancers including prostate cancer could become a reality in the near future after researchers associated with Cancer Research UK came up with a new method of developing such vaccines. According to the report published in the journal, Nature Medicine, the new approach of developing vaccines has already proven to be successful among mice with the vaccine curing over 80 percent of the mice that were suffering from prostate cancer.
While Cancer Research UK has expressed caution by stating that the vaccine still has to undergo human trials, the researchers said that they were excited with the new method involving the insertion of healthy DNA into a virus which then prompts the body’s immune system to attack cancerous cells.
“We have reason to be quite excited. It's not out-of-the-blue research, but based on immunotherpay and virus treatments which are looking very promising and that is what is really exciting”, University of Leeds’ Professor Alan Melcher said.
