Care Homes and Hospices in Wales may Be Subjected to Regular Inspections

New proposals by All-Wales Palliative Care Planning Group call for regular inspections of care homes and hospices.

The report says that core-funded multi-disciplinary teams including social workers and welfare support workers must work together in order to achieve better partnerships between health and social services.

Some of the other proposals mooted include 24-hour helpline and “24/7 specialist support and advice” for people who have a life-limiting condition. It also says that although care in most home sis good, there is a necessary to frame a standard to overcome staff shortages.

The Minister for Health and Social Services, Edwina Hart is due to respond to the report before the Welsh Assembly.
