Celebrity Rehab Doctor Tenders Apology for Questioning Mental Health of Tom Cruise

Celebrity Rehab therapist Dr Drew Pinsky, has apologized to Tom Cruise after casting doubts on the actor's mental health.

Pinsky, the host of VH1's 'Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,' questioned why Cruise had been 'drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology' while being interviewed for the July issue of Playboy.

"A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt," People quoted Pinsky, as saying.

"Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that's a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect," he added.

Now, Pinsky has issued an apology through his representative.

"Dr Drew meant no harm to Mr Cruise and apologises if his comments were hurtful," it read.

Cruise's attorney Bert Fields reacted angrily to Pinsky's remarks, calling him a 'posturing flake'.

"I don't know what kind of a doctor this guy is, but this posturing flake pretends to diagnose people he's never met and suggests all Scientologists are mentally ill. This should tell you something about the quality of his opinions. They're ridiculous," Fields said.
