"Celiac disease causes inflammation of the bowel, which in turn makes it hard for people to absorb nutrients from the food they eat. As a result, one of the first signs can be unexplained tiredness and a general lack of energy or get-up-and-go,” he said. "Many men put it down to the fact they're leading a busy lifestyle or just getting older - but this type of tiredness is not normal."
Celiac disease is triggered by gluten; a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats and is estimated to affect 1 in 100 people in Australia. Experts say 75% of them are unaware of the disease condition.
Dr Tye-Din encouraged people to call the Celiac Awareness Hotline on 1300273272 for a free brochure.
