Cell Phone Use Linked to Low Sperm Quality in Males
A new study conducted by Canadian researchers suggests that using cell phones could be one of the causes of infertility in men since it leads to low quality sperms.
Researchers from Queen's University in Kingston in Ontario observed more than 2,100 men who had attended an infertility clinic in Austria during 1993 and 2007 and found that those who consistently used cell phones had lower levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) leading to low sperm count compared to those who did not.

The researchers also found that while the sperm count was down, the use of cell phones also increased testosterone levels. Lead researcher Rany Shamloul said that the electromagnetic waves emitted by cell phones could have a dual effect of increasing the number of testosterone producing cells in the testes but lowering the LH levels.

“Our findings were a little bit puzzling. We were expecting to find different results, but the results we did find suggest that there could be some intriguing mechanisms at work”, Shamloul said. The study has been published in the online version of the journal Andrologia
