Experts at Glasgow in the United Kingdom, claim have developed a new chemical that would cause cancer cells to commit suicide
After Iraq the very term suicide bombing evokes visions of horror. But there could be a really beneficial suicide bombing, after all.
Yes, experts at Glasgow in the United Kingdom, claim have developed a new chemical that would cause cancer cells to commit suicide, it has been reported.Researchers at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research at Glasgow say that in experiments on mice, the chemical significantly slowed down the growth of the tumors. Hopefully they could prove effective in human beings too in the not too distant future, they say.
Their claims are reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation. The team further says that the chemical could kill several types of cancer cells - including bowel, cervical and bone cells. While details have not been revealed, it has been stated that the selective activation of a gene called p73 caused cell death in tumors.
The Beatson facility, only recently thrown open, is touted as the most advanced cancer center in the UK. It boasts of state-of-the-art scanning equipment and was built at a huge cost of around 100 million pounds.
