The central government will send an advisory to all state governments cautioning them about the ill effects of aerated soft drinks after an independent report found heavy pesticide contents in them.
"We are sending an advisory to all state governments to educate the public about the ill-effects of the junk food and aerated soft drinks," Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss told reporters in the parliament complex Thursday.Various states have already banned the sale of aerated drinks following the Centre for Science and Environment's report that found pesticides beyond the permissible norms in samples of well-known brands of soft drinks.
Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Kerala have said the colas cannot be sold in schools, colleges and government departments. Karnataka is all set to take a similar step, while Jammu and Kashmir has warned people of the harmful effects of these drinks.
