German scientists have found that energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) emit carcinogenic chemicals when they are switched on.
The materials used to manufacture the lamps are probably responsible for these potentially harmful side effects. Even though the Department of Environmental claims CFLs to be safe, the EU plans to phase out its use by the end of next year.
