The instruction from Home secretary Krishna Mohan forbids all heads of departments, boards, corporations and institutions from associating with anything that is related to the tobacco industry.They have been asked not to accept any direct or indirect funding or sponsorship from any industry or individual engaged in the trade of tobacco.
Chandigarh was officially declared a 'smoke-free city' July 15. Smoking in public places and areas where public has access has been banned. Over 1,500 people have been fined so far for violating the order.
