Childhood sex abuse linked To eating disorder

Women who had experienced sexual abuse in their childhood found to suffer from eating disorder which is linked to psychological stress and depression.

Professor Anita Hund and her team from University of Illinois have found that eating disorders occur in women who underwent sexual abuse during their childhood. Eating disorder develops in women who had experienced psychological stress and depression in earlier stage of their life. The researchers have published the results of their work in the Journal of Counseling Psychology.

The Research team conducted the survey in 608 students at Midwestern University where they were asked to fill up a questionnaire about their experience with childhood sexual abuse, psychological stress and eating disorders. The researchers found that there was an increased link between depression and alexithymia which leads to eating disorders later in their life.
