Children Embroiled in Facebook Rows

A new study has shown that teachers in Australian schools have been forced to break up fights relating to social networking site Facebook between children as young as six. While some teenagers are secretly running two accounts on the social site so they can keep one hidden from their parents.

According to a research by the federal Opposition, parents say the explosion in the number of internet-enabled devices in the home makes them feel like they are running the IT department of a small company.

The study found that some children have been victims of classmates setting up fake Facebook accounts and using them to attack other students and teachers, Thetelegraph.com.au reports.

According to the paper, parents have found their children playing games with unmoderated chat rooms and children say they don't tell parents about cyber bullying because they fear they will be cut off from their computer, the study noted.

"This is a real challenge for parents to keep up with their kids and this technology. Parents are under pressure and schools and teachers are also facing a major new area of responsibility," Paul Fletcher, a Liberal MP, who led the study said.

Fletcher said the growning number of high tech devices have presence in the lounge rooms and bedrooms of the nation equal to the television and telephone, the paper said.
