Charity Beat is calling for a change in curriculum that will promote positive self-esteem among children so as to stop them from developing eating disorders.
"Beat is calling for a curriculum that promotes positive self-esteem in young children and that helps children understand that we come in all shapes and sizes and success is not about how we look but who and what we do," said Emma Healey, Beat's director of operations. She added that this was a must if the country wanted to see healthy, resilient youngsters in future.
Children must be taught to develop emotional resilience and tactics for dealing with images of the "perfect body," the charity said. The could be included in personal, social and health education (PSHE) in the curriculum.
