Children Warned About Bouncing on Trampolines

Researchers from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee have revealed that children are being injured on trampolines because many drunken adults are crowding them

Researchers from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee have revealed that children are being injured on trampolines because many drunken adults are crowding them leaving no space at all.

"As the adult bounces on the trampoline with the child their weight brings the platform of the trampoline down and back up to meet the child as they land - this causes a force into the child's bones," said Dr Andrew Bogacz from Ninewells. The hospital analyzed 50 injuries at the A&E department over the last six weeks before arriving at this conclusion.

Peter Cornall, head of leisure safety at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) agreed with these findings and said that while trampolines can be fun and provide exercise, there is a need for parents to be cautious and see that only one person bounces at a time.

In the above series, 46% of the cases were without supervision from adults, while 64% bounced about without a safety net.
