After the obituary for chicken delicacies, post bird-flu scare, the farmers have made a strong bid this Sunday at the capital, with a chicken mela that would dish out all varieties of chicken goodies – Chicken biriyani, roast, eggs, fried chicken, chilly chicken, and what have you, all on the house and served on a platter.
Ever since, bird flu got its way in India and hit the headlines on February 18, the poultry industry has been recording loses that is no chicken feed … RS 45 crore a day. The industry is also a bit peeved that MPs have cast out chicken from their menu with the US president George Bush , being no exception during his visit to India.So the chicken Mela at Jama Masjid's Meena Bazar will have the esteemed patronage of VIPs - the Haryana governor, the Delhi chief minister and the Imam of Jama Masjid who will tuck into the fave bird, to change the course of the bird which has been off late riding a low wave. This event is sponsored by the Poultry Federation of India as a shot in the arm to scare away fears of impending bird flu.
