Beijing: An agenda released by the government has demonstrated China’s renewed commitment to check animal diseases. China has decided to invest 8.83 billion yuan (1.12 billion U.S. dollars) to control and prevent animal diseases.
The aim of the plan is to control animal diseases like bird flu, foot-and-mouth disease, by 2015 and possibly even root out these diseases completely. The central government will enable about 5.66 billion yuan and the remaining amount will be put in by the local government.
The bird flu outbreak of 2004 had brought to the fore the loopholes, in the strategies designed to control animal diseases. The new plan will focus on remedying these chinks in China’s armor.
