A sixth case of human bird flu has been confirmed by China's Ministry of Health amid confirmation of a new outbreak of flu among poultry. The patient, a 35-year-old in Jiangxi Province, east China, fell ill on 4 December 2005 with fever and symptoms of pneumonia.
The China Disease Prevention and Control Center tested samples to determine the presence of the virulent H5N1 bird flu virus. The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the outbreak of the disease in poultry in the same village where the patient lives, after 1,640 ducks raised by a villager died. Veterinarian officials have culled 15,000 birds within three kilometers of the affected area.In November, a woman was confirmed as China's fifth case of bird flu, but she has recovered left the hospital last week.
