Chocolate makers to be health wise and urge consumers to be too!

The British are taking the lead to teach chocolate lovers a thing or two about balanced diet

The British are taking the lead to teach chocolate lovers a thing or two about balanced diet.

Taking health in their hands two of Britain's top sweet-makers will put warning labels on their chocolate bars to inform the consumers to enjoy them as part of a balanced diet.

The two spearheading this revolution are Cadbury Trebor Bassett and Masterfoods UK, the makers of confectionery such as Dairy Milk and Mars chocolate bars. They made a formal announcement that they will include a "Be treatwise" message on their products.

The information supplied by the label would be GDA’s guideline daily amounts. This is an index of how much of each nutrient the government recommends people should eat -- and advises the consumer to "Be active for 30 minutes". "People know and love chocolate and sweets as treats and understand these should be enjoyed sensibly. Communicating our 'Be treatwise' message to millions of consumers daily by our packs is the most powerful way we can help people to understand and enjoy our products as part of their diet," said Simon Baldry, managing director of Cadbury Trebor Bassett.

This is an excellent step towards generating awareness in people about healthy eating
