Premature death due to chronic disease was a big problem in Australia, but recent figures show that chronic health issues have reduced which has impacted life expectancy of Australians positively. The report released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has revealed that there has been a 20% reduction in the number of people dying from chronic illness.
'The indicators were developed as a first step to consistent reporting, which will, over time, be able to provide information about progress with preventing and managing chronic disease in Australia,' said Ilona Brockway of the AIHW's Population Health Unit.
