Coffee enhances memory

Coffee is a very good stimulant in day to day life. According to researchers drinking coffee stops the decline in memory performance that happens as the day progresses. During the morning hours, memory is at its best in older adults compared to late afternoon. For researchers at the University of Arizona have found that coffee can find out memory performance throughout the day.

They had about 60-70 participants aged over 64 do a verbal learning test in the morning and and again in the evening. One group received a 10 ounce cup of regular coffee during the tests, while the other got the decaffeinated kind. The participants were unable to tell the difference between the two. Those drinking decaff had the usual decline in performance during the day, but those ingesting caffeine did not - they were as sharp in the afternoon as in the morning. According to researchers, the next step is to repeat these experiments with brain scanning, to find out what effect caffeine really has on brain function and blood flow.
