Combination of two antipsychotic drugs Clozapine and Risperdal are not more beneficial done mono antipsychotic drugs.
Professor William Honer and researchers have reported the results of the study in New England Journal of Medicine in which they found in a trial conducted in 68 patients over the benefits of combining two antipsychotic drugs Clozapine and Risperdal for treatment of Schizophrenia.
The researchers found that this combination drug did not work positively in controlling the symptoms of Schizophrenia and the results of combination drug is similar to mono drug treatment of Clozapine, researchers found Clozapine and Risperdal combination drug is no better than single Clozapine drug therapy.Schizophrenia is a severe disease affecting the brain leading to mental disturbances due to disturbances in the brain neurotransmitters leading to damage in nerve cells leading to problems in message transmission between brain cells and other cells of the body.
Researchers feel that instead of combining two antipsychotic drugs which has been found to have no considerable difference in treatment to mono drug therapy, a combination of antipsychotic drug with mood stabilizers or anti-depressant drugs may be helpful in treating the symptoms of Schizophrenia.
