More and more elderly people are getting hurt by indulging in extreme sports, a new report released by an insurance company reveals.
According to the data released by specialist insurer Perkins Slade, more than 20 percent of injury claims concerned with extreme sports were made by people who were more than 70 years of age, up from 5 percent in 2006, in spite of such an age group making up just 5 percent of its customer base.Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the director of sport at Perkins Slade, Richard Doubleday said that while elderly people think that they are able to compete in such sports, the stats reveal that they are more vulnerable to getting injured.
“There's no question that the evidence shows that the older you are the greater risk you present. While people are undoubtedly getting fitter and healthier, our figures show that the number of accidents after 70 increases dramatically”, he added.
