A woman with breast cancer found a savior in her daughter, who helped raise the life-saving sum of £47,000, so that the drug, Herceptin could be made available for her to fight debilitating breast cancer.
Shropshire Primary Care Trust had refused the cancer drug to Mrs. Morgan, of Whitchurch. Katie Morgan, her daughter and all of ten, wrote to Shropshire MP Owen Paterson, and expressed her mother’s condition, petitioning for humanitarian help to tide over a major health problem. The letter was open for public read, and now, a businessman has offered to sponsor the amount.Shropshire had refused the drug to Mrs. Morgan because of safety concerns and the non availability of a license for the drug’s use during initial stages of breast cancer. Mrs Morgan has four children and was diagnosed with breast cancer last May.
Mr Morgan said 'It is just a postcode lottery at the moment. There are loads of other parts of the country that are getting the drug - we are dealing with people's lives here.'
