A group of American researchers has revealed that setting the clock one hour ahead as part of the daylight saving time could prove to be hazardous to your health. The researchers from University of Alabama looked into the health impact of daylight saving time and found that the Monday and Tuesday after moving the clock ahead increased the risk of heart attacks by more than 10 percent.
The researchers suggested that the increased risk could be due to the fact that people are yet to adjust to less sleeping time. The researchers added that the risk is not apparent on Sunday as people usually sleep in and rise a little later.
“Sleep deprivation, the body's circadian clock and immune responses all can come into play when considering reasons that changing the time by an hour can be detrimental to someone's health”, lead researcher Martin Young said.
