Delhi HC Says AIIMS Strike was Illegal
Terming the doctors’ strike held during 2006-2007 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as illegal, the Delhi High Court has asked the hospital administration to identify the participants in order to hand out strict punishments.
Chief Justice Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna also directed that doctors cannot go on strike in future and if they do attempt it, then they will be held in contempt of court and will face strong charges.

The court said that AIIMS is the premier medical institute in the country and it is the duty of the institute’s doctors to provide uninterrupted service to patients. “Health of citizens is wealth of a nation. Doctors, residents, interns, para medical staff and any other person connected with AIIMS could not have gone on strike”, the court said.

Accepting the PIL filed by SC and ST Medical Association, the president of AIIMS was also ordered to create a committee to look into four particular strikes held during 2006 to 2007 and said that those who are identified should be made to stand before the law.
