Delhiites, young and old, participated in a health walk on Wednesday to spread public awareness on hygiene to avoid infections or epidemics during the Commonwealth Games and marked World Health Day.
The event, titled 'Healthy Cities - Hygienic Habits' was organized by the Art of Living foundation, in association with the Delhi Medical Association.The health walk marks the beginning of a mass initiative, which would continue for over six months, leading up to the Commonwealth Games.
" Today, we take a pledge to make Delhi hygienic and will adopt hygienic habits to in our daily life. Commonwealth Games is going to happen in Delhi and the most feared thing that can happen during that period is that infectious diseases or epidemics can come to Delhi. If it happens, it can be a shame for Delhi. People will not come to Delhi. Tourism sector will be affected," said Dr. Narendra Saini, president of the Delhi Medical Association.
The walk aims at spreading awareness of hygiene so that Delhi is able to avoid infectious diseases or epidemics during the Commonwealth Games in October this year, as over a 100,000 foreign visitors are expected.
