A new research conducted into video gaming has revealed that children who play video games for a prolonged period are prone to anxiety and depression. The research, published in the journal Pediatrics, was conducted by Dr. Douglas Gentile of Iowa State University who claimed that those suffering from “pathological gaming” were at a greater risk of suffering from depression, anxiety or social phobia.
Dr Gentile analyzed the gaming habits of more than 3,000 students in Singapore over a period of two years and asked them a series of 10 questions such as whether they skipped homework to play games or whether they tried to cut back on gaming time.
He found out that those who managed to cut down their gaming hours substantially showed lower levels of depression and anxiety compared to those who were unsuccessful in reducing their gaming hours.
