Dettol Soap Samples’ Fail Lab Test, Net Weight Less Than Declared

During the lab test, the actual weight of Dettol soap was found to be 117.0470 gm, but the weight mentioned on the wrapper was 125 gm.

After Maggi noodles, now Dettol manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser has come under the scanner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The samples collected from Agra were sent for laboratory tests in Lucknow.

The popular soap failed laboratory test, the lab report was sent to the FDA and Dettol. Other ten medicinal brands have also failed tests and declared sub-standard.

Reaching Out to 14 Lakh Students Using The Healthy Hand Wash Programme Is Dettol
As part of its Healthy Hand Wash Programme leading disinfectant brand Dettol said that it had reached out to 14 lakh students in 3,114 schools in 65 cities across India.

"The wrapper of Dettol soap bar collected by us mentioned its weight to be 125gm. However, the actual weight in our tests was 117.0470gm," said a FDA official.

“The letter received from FDA claimed lesser weight not quality. We confirm that Dettol Soap is 100% safe to use and it goes through a series of rigorous tests. As per the packaged commodities guidelines, the net weight specified on the pack is the weight observed at the time of packaging,” said a Reckitt Benckiser spokesperson.

Technically, all soaps lose moisture during the journey to retail outlets and hence we witness a drop in the weight, the spokesperson said.
