With the aim to provide patients easy access to medical care, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) in New Delhi launched a multi-purpose Digital Health Card.
"As a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ’Digital India Programme’, we have launched SGRH Health Card - a multi purpose smart card, designed to provide patients with easy portability of their health care information and give the consultants faster access to their clinical data," said Dr D S Rana, Chairman, Board of Management at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The card contains a micro-chip with Smart-Chip Technology which stores all information related to patient’s health.

"So the patient will not have to carry his films, medical reports and details when he visits the hospital. Instead, this card will be given to the treating consultant, who by inserting it in card reader will get to know about his past medical history. This will not only save time but also will help in becoming paperless," said Dr Rana.

Digital Health Card can also be used as eWallet cash card in which a patient can store cash and use the card to pay at any department at SGRH, without the need to carry cash.

"We have started issuing smart cards that integrate the patient’s identity data with essential health information that can be quickly accessed," he added.

“Fast and secured access to patient’s health information, lab results, queue management, access to the appointment scheduling of the consultants and various clinical services, patient dashboard at the consulting room and other cost benefits to the patients are the key features that would be offered in phased manner in the interest of improved patient care,” said an official.
