Eight doctors and 2 Institutes were conferred with the prestigious Dr. K.S. Sanjivi Award today in Chennai, South India, in recognition of their untiring efforts in serving the underprivileged. The Ekam Foundation and Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust jointly organized the award ceremony to honor the eight doctors and the two Institutes for their matchless dedication to the society. The Awardees of Dr. K.S. Sanjivi Awards for 2010 are: Dr. P. Amudha Rajeswari, Pediatrician, Madurai, Dr. Shiva Prasad Sahoo, Ophthalmologist, Orissa, Dr. Sarala Rajajee, Pediatric Hematologist, Immunologist, Chennai, Dr. L. L. Muthusamy, ENT Surgeon, Madurai, Dr. K. Vanaja, Public Health Specialist, Chennai, Dr. R. Krishnamoorthy, Plastic Surgeon, Chennai, Chennai, Dr. JS Sathya Narayan Murthy, Cardiologist, Chennai and Dr. Subramanya Bharathiyar, Anesthetist, Chennai.
The Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai and Isha Outreach Coimbatore were the two Institutes that received the award for outstanding community healthcare service. The awards ceremony was preceded by CME lectures on Oncologic Emergency by Dr. Ganapathy Ramanan and Dr. Iyyapan and on Pain and Palliative Care in cancer by Dr. CS Mani, Surgical Oncologist.
The Chief Guest Mr. Subburaj IAS, Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department honored the awardees. Dr. Sarkar representing Dr. V. Shantha, Executive Chairman Cancer Institute, Mr. D.J. Parthasarathy, Vice President, Sales and Marketing TTK Healthcare Ltd., were the guests of honor.
Dr. K.S. Sanjivi Award was instituted in 2004 in memory of Dr. K.S. Sanjivi, the founder of Voluntary Health Services and a pioneer of community health services and a visionary in the concept of community health. A committee comprising of doctors, trustees of EKAM and Udhavum Ullangal and past awardees selected this year’s awardees. The Award included a laser-etched trophy and a citation detailing the awardee’s services.
