Doctors Insecure?

Delhi: Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital was caught in the throes of a bizarre incident that threw the hospital’s functioning, asunder!

Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital was caught in the throes of a bizarre incident that threw the hospital’s functioning, asunder! On March 13th, around 10:30 pm, the whole of the ICU was held hostage by a patient’s relative. The relative wielded a gun in his hand, and demanded that his child, who was on the road to recovery, not be shifted from the ICU to the ward.

The police was informed, but they did not react immediately. The hospital services including the emergency came to a standstill for about an hour, till the situation was controlled. Later, a letter from the medical superintendent’s office was forwarded to the police, registering the complaint.

Now, Resident doctors at Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi have penned a letter of demand to the Medical Superintendent that adequate security be provided to the Doctors.

The president of the Resident Doctors' Association of the hospital, Sumer Kumar Sethi said,” We are demanding that immediate action is taken against the culprit and that he be charged with attempt to murder. We are also demanding formation of a campus security council. A beat constable should be available round the clock on the campus.''

Not an unusual demand, considering that hospitals have witnessed such incidents in the recent past.
