In a case of sheer negligence, doctors who operated upon a man to remove his appendix, left a large pair of surgical scissors in his abdomen.
Doctors at the Nellore Government General Hospital (GGH) left a pair of scissors inside a 45-year-old man’s abdomen during an appendicitis operation. Sireekapu Chalapathi (45), underwent an appendix operation on October 3, after suffering from appendicitis for a few years. Almost a month later (October 27), he was admitted again after he complained of severe stomach and abdominal pain.

Upon being examined, the doctors found a large pair of scissors which were left behind after the first surgery. Chalapathi was immediately operated upon, however, his condition remains critical. GGH superintendent Dr Hari has ordered an internal inquiry. The botched operation became public on Monday after the X-Ray showing the scissors inside Chalapathi's stomach was leaked to the media.
Earlier this year, doctors in Vietnam removed a pair of surgical forceps from a man’s body 18 years after it was forgetfully left in his abdomen in 1998. Ma Van Nhat, 54, said that 15 centimeters-long instrument had broken apart and become lodged in Nhat’s stomach.
