The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Gujarat chapter and the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) have decided to back the resident doctors’ strike in the state, which is now a week old. The Gujarat Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) is striking in the state and has been warned of strict action by the government.
"The issue is not a new one yet, the government is taking too much time resolving it and because of this the patients have to suffer. Therefore, we are here to morally support these students in their fight for their rights," said Ramesh Shah, the president of AMA.Already some 648 doctors have been dismissed from service and the government is said to be contemplating similar action against the rest of the striking doctors.
