Door-to-door Visits to Check Water-borne and Seasonal Diseases in Rajasthan

Nearly 360 mobile teams have been pressed into service in Rajasthan to make door-to-door visits to check the outbreak of water-borne and other seasonal diseases.

Nearly 360 mobile teams have been pressed into service in Rajasthan to make door-to-door visits to check the outbreak of water-borne and other seasonal diseases following incessant rains in the state.

"There was always a possibility of the outbreak of water-borne and other viral diseases because of the presence of moisture in the atmosphere after the floods. So, we have now decided to go all out to control it," Principal Health Secretary Sudhir Bhargava said Monday.

"The mobile teams are treating patients in 2,469 villages of the 12 affected districts," he told IANS.

The teams are touring nearly 544 villages everyday.

Bhargava said district collectors have been authorised to hire retired and the private doctors.

In the past week, over 81,000 patients with fever were detected and their blood samples were collected for investigations.

Bhargava said 1,047 patients were found affected with malaria after the investigation.

He said there were no cases of chikungunya in the city but four patients having similar symptoms are being treated. Their samples have been sent for tests.

"We have already started a survey in the city to identify chikungunya patients but no one has so far been traced," said D.C. Jain, chief medical and health officer.
