Police sources give that kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar is hiding in Nepal. The police claim to have unearthed a local illegal transplant ring there.

“We are hoping to arrest him soon,” Upendra Aryal, SSP, Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Crime Division was quoted.

Aryal divulged that the hotels in which Kumar had been staying in had been identified. The police found a match of his passport number and the entries in the hotels he checked into. They also said that Kumar had received calls from three local mobile numbers.

Investigators in India believe that for a while Kumar may have fled the country. Nepal is likely to be his destination as he has business links here, in addition to kidney transplant deals.

Dr. Amit Kumar is the mastermind behind an international racket in illegal kidney transplants which has had a free run for many years. He is accused of having forced or duped around 500 people into giving up their kidneys.

Kumar’s family relocated to Canada many years ago. Kumar was once reported that he was in the process of winding up his business in India. It is plausible that Kumar is in Nepal and trying to join his family in Canada or even go under till the heat is off. Yet as for now, police in Nepal are very, very close on his trail.

Meanwhile in the last few weeks, the police have uncovered a kidney racket in Nepal. The kingpin; Deepak Lama is absconding.

The police are currently trying to decipher if Lama is in any way connected to Kumar. “Lama organized donors and sent them to India mostly to Chennai for transplants ” says a police officer.

There have also been efforts by Interpol sleuths to nab Kumar. They were working with Indian officials over doubts of Kumar having fled to Canada to join his family.

"We can say that Interpol-Ottawa has been in communication with Interpol-New Delhi about this case," says Royal Canadian Mountain police Sgt. Sylvie Tremblay.

Kumar has been dubbed as "Dr Horror" by the media for allegedly supplying hundreds of kidneys bought or coerced from his country's poor. He is rumored to have led his racket from an unknown location in Canada, where his family I residing. It is also said that Kumar does not possess the requisite medical degrees.
