Declaring drinking as a bailable offence, the Federal Shariat Court in Pakistan has declared that drunk people would be flogged by date palm sticks if found guilty of creating public nuisance.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Haziqul Khairi, while hearing a petition challenging the proposed punishment for drinking, overturned the punishment of lashing and changed it to date palm stick flogging.The petitioner had also claimed that Islamic law has provisions to grant bail to the person accused of drinking, The Daily Times reported.
