Duronto Trains to Have Doctors

The railways has decided to launch a pilot project wherein all Duronto (end-to-end nonstop) trains will have one General Duty Medical Officer and one paramedical staff.

The railways has decided to launch a pilot project wherein all Duronto (end-to-end nonstop) trains will have one General Duty Medical Officer and one paramedical staff. Currently nine pairs of Duronto trains are operational, but do not have any medical service on board.

The proposed medical services will be free of cost. Equipment like ECG, ophthalmoscope, glucometer and treatment equipment like defibrillators, portable suction apparatus, oxygen cylinders and nebulizers will be purchased by zonal railways.

The doctor and the attendant will get two berths in the AC-2 compartment. A designated patient-care sick bay will also be set up on the train where the patient will be moved after examination.

If it is deemed essential that the patient must be shifted to a medical center, then the train will be stopped at the next station that has medical facilities and the station master will transport the sick patient to a hospital.
