Educate People About the Best Way to Treat Burns
A survey of more than 7000 people which sought to test people’s knowledge about burns and the best way to treat them showed that 80% of the participants felt that burns needed to be cooled with cold or cool water.
Only 9.5% said that burns had to be cooled for 20 minutes with cold water.

Researchers have asked for a relook at Australia's first aid guidelines after it recently came to light that less than 10 per cent of Australians actually knew how to treat burns.

Most people are ignorant about official guidelines which advice that burns must be cooled with water for 20 minutes.

Many health bodies have given conflicting advice regarding the manner of treating burns and this has caused confusion.

"We suggest that it is time for the major medical and first-aid bodies in Australia to review their first-aid recommendations in light of the recent experimental studies and to work towards promoting consistent and simple recommendations for Australians," researchers said.
