The Indian government is committed to provide toilets to 11 crore households by 2019 and clean drinking water to 90% of the population by 2022.
Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Birender Singh has said that the government would provide toilets to 11 crore households by 2019 in India, asserting the Center’s commitment to ’Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’. Addressing media on the achievements of the NDA Government in the last one year, Singh said that five crore houses have already been provided with toilets.
Furthermore, on the issue of drinking water in the rural areas, Singh said his ministry is working towards achieving the target of providing piped water to 90% of the population by 2022.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to providing clean drinking water for all and has expressed a desire to set aside Rs 2600 crores for the same.
